Funeral services for Vera Mae Phillips, 90, of Sealy were held 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Sealy with the Rev. John Tyler officiating. Interment was in the Sealy Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service were, Joey Pekar, Ronnie Smith, Perry Strauss, Rodney Malone, Jerry Hanson, and Joe Wright with honorary pallbearer, Ryan Strauss. The former Miss Vera Mae Kunze was born to parents Robert and Zada Habermacher Kunze in San Felipe. She was raised in San Felipe and attended school at San Felipe. She married Leon Phillips on Nov. 15, 1954 in Houston. Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker who enjoyed the outdoors, horses and dogs especially her dog Mandy. She had a "green thumb" for growing flowers and had a special talent for embroidering and cross-stitching making tablecloths, napkins, pillow cases and cup towels. Mrs. Phillips was a-long-time member of the First "United Methodist Church in Sealy. She died Sunday, April 24 in Bellville. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Deanna Phillips of Sealy; grandchildren and spouses Nancy Strauss and Perry, Kim Pekar and Joey, Kristi Malone and Rodney; great grandchildren, Ryan Strauss and Hannah Pekar. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Zada Kunze and husband, Leon Phillips. Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church Landscape Fund, 200 Atchison St., Sealy, Texas 77474. Funeral services were held under the direction of the Knesek Family Funeral Chapel in Sealy.
