Elsie Janis Ripple, 99, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005. She was born Feb. 22, 1906, to John William Ripple and Vera Schlopota Ripple in Sealy. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 23, at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Sealy with the Rev. John Tyler of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Sealy Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were, Frank Koy, Dr. Teddy Hirsch, Joe Ed Burttschell, Frank Vecera, Sam Johnson, Harold Krampitz, and Charles Hirsch. After graduating from Sealy High School in 1923, Miss Ripple attended Texas Women's College in Huntsville, Texas, and received her BS degree there in 1937. Later she attended the University of Houston and received her Master of Education degree in 1953. She also attended Sul Ross Teacher's College in Alpine, Texas. She taught school in Frydek, East Bernard, La Grange, Sealy, Taylor and Spring Branch, retiring in 1971. Miss Ripple taught school for 44 years. Miss Ripple was a longtime member of Sealy First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Austin County Retired Teachers Association and life member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, member of the Spring Valley Association of University Women in Houston before retiring, life member of the Bunker Hill School PTA, longtime member of the Sealy Garden Club, life member of the Stephen F. Austin Park Association, charter and life member of the Sealy Area Historical Association and life member of the Sealy Chamber of Commerce. When she retired, her hobbies were: crocheting, oil painting, playing bridge, entertaining, and especially traveling. By 1977 she had driven in all 48 continental states and visited Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, toured Europe and enjoyed several Caribbean cruises. She is survived by two nephews, William (Bill) Ripple and wife. Sue of Sealy and Harold John Ripple of Terrell; great niece, Julie Browne and husband Bobby Browne; great nephew, John W. Ripple and wife Karen; great-great nieces and nephews, William, David and Julianna Browne and Brittni, Lauren, Holli Sue, and Jill Ripple; great nephew, Scott Ripple and wife Emma and great, great niece, Meagan Ripple. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold Ripple and sister Evelyn Ripple.
