WOODROW HERMAN ROHDE

Woodrow Herman Rohde was born September 18, 1916 in Bellville, Texas. The
son of Herman Louis and Lillie Frank Rohde, he grew up and attended school
in Bellville, graduating as Salutatorian from Bellville High School in 1934.
On August 27, 1938, he was united in marriage with Iris McTaggart at Norhill
Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Woodrow and Iris made their home in
Houston where they were members of the Unity Baptist Church. In 1946,
Woodrow was ordained as a Deacon of Unity Baptist. After his retirement in
1982 from Chemical Leahman Tank Line, where he was employed as Office
Manager, Woodrow and Iris moved to Bellville where they have been active
members of the First Baptist Church, with Woodrow again serving as Deacon.
He also taught Bible Study classes at both the Sweetbriar and Colonial Belle
Nursing Homes in Bellville, and served on the board of the Pilgrims Rest
Cemetery Association.
W.H. Rohde, a loving husband, father and grandfather went to be with the
Lord Tuesday, March 15 at his home in Bellville at the age of 88. He is
survived by his wife of 66 years; Iris Rohde of Bellville; Children: Karl
Rohde and his wife, Anita, of Huntsville, Jean Myers and her husband, Joe,
of Arlington, David Rohde and his wife, Judy, of Austin, Paul Rohde and his
wife, Janet, of Guyana, South America, Nancy Yockel and her husband, David,
of Oklahoma City; 12 grandchildren: Duane, Kathy, Kenneth, Debra, Carrie,
Christopher, John, Kyle, Sarah, Scott, Sean, Brian; and 15
great-grandchildren: Ashlie, Rachael, Reagan, Courtney, Shane, Radney,
Travis, Haley, Joshua, Jacob, Paul, Samuel, Ryan, Evan, Erin and Joanna.
He is also survived by his brothers: Calvin Rohde and his wife, Bonnie, and
Herman Rohde and his wife, Katherine; sister: Irene Goddard and her husband,
David; all of Houston; and many other friends and relatives. Woodrow was
preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005 at the
Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m.
Saturday, march 19 at First Baptist church in Bellville with the Rev. Jeff
English and the Rev. George Elledge officiating. Burial followed in the
Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Scott Yockel and Sean,
Brian, Chris, John, Kyle, Duane and Kenneth Rohde. Honorary Pallbearers
were Lee Perskey and Floyd Merten. In lieu of usual remembrances, friends
who wish may make memorial gifts to the First Baptist Church, 504 East
Strauss, Bellville, TX 77418.
