Funeral services for Sophie Sowa, 84, of Frydek, were held Wednesday, May 5,
at 10 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic church in Frydek with the Rev. Bernard
Snock celebrating the Funeral Mass and rite of committal. Interment was at
St. Mary's Cemetery in Frydek.
Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons: David Mlcak Jr., Teles Schranck,
Jerome Peters, Wayne Kazmir, Mark Sowa, Billy Sowa, Steve Sowa and Clayton
Sowa.
Born in Sealy, Sophie Mary Gajewski was the daughter of Stash and Victoria
Pyka Gajewski. She was raised in the Frydek area and attended the Frydek
Public School and Catholic School.
On Nov. 28, 1940 Sophie and Mr. Telesfor Sowa were married with a ceremony
held in Frydek.
Sophie was a member of KJZT and the Altar Society of St. Mary's Catholic
Church. She helped out at the church hall in Frydek, cooking for funerals
and serving. Every year Sophie had a stand at the Grotto celebration, where
you could buy her handmade bonnets, pillow cases, napkins, table cloths and
many other items.
She enjoyed quilting, cooking and visiting with people.
Sophie Mary Sowa passed away at her home in Frydek Sunday, May 1, 2005.
She is survived by: her husband Telesfor Sowa of Frydek; her children and
their spouses Ruth and Adolph Kazmir of Houston, Barbara Schranck of
Bellville, Sylvia and David Mlcak of Frydek, Thelma and Ronnie Peters of
Rosenberg, Andrew and Charlene Sowa of Sealy, Placid and Pat Sowa of Frydek,
Gilbert and Shirley Sowa of Frydek, her grandchildren and their spouses
Wayne Kazmir, Scott and Kelly Schranck, Gail Kirk, Teles Schranck, Tina
Anderson, David Jr., and Angela Mlcak, Victoria Mlcak, Jerome Peters, Mindy
and Johnathon Wrobliski, Cassy Peters, Dorothy and Donny Sklar, Mark and
Sara Sowa, Theresa and Joe Mike Young, Lisa and Joe Villarreal, Steve and
Tricia Sowa, Stephanie and Ronnie Kuciemba, Billy and Lori Sowa, Robin and

great-great grandchildren Tater and Tracer Kruzel.
Preceded in death by her parents Stash and Victoria Gajewski; brothers
Valentine, John, Pete and August Gajewski; sisters Evelyn Belunek, Albina
Orsak, Henrietta Gajewski; grandson Milton Sowa Jr. and son-in-law Edward
Schranck.
Services under the direction of Knesek Funeral Chapel in Sealy.
