Funeral services for Gertrude Naegeli Spiess, 87, of Industry were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at the Salem Lutheran Church at Welcome with Pastor Jason Korthauer officiating. Interment followed in the Carmine City Cemetery. Friends could call the Zaskoda Chapel in Industry after 3 p.m. Sunday where the family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Gertrude Bertha Emma Naegeli Spiess was born Sept. 16, 1918, in the Prairie Hill Community of Washington County, the daughter of Christian and Anna (Monsees) Schoenemann. She was baptized Feb. 23, 1919, at St. Johnıs Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill by Pastor F. Afflerbach. She attended Harmon schools near Burton and was confirmed on March 28, 1933, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine by Pastor H. Brunotte. She married Emil Naegeli on Jan. 19, 1939, in Carmine. After his death on March 12, 1965, she married Robert Lee Spiess on Aug. 11, 1967, in New Ulm. He preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1993. A homemaker her entire life, she was a seamstress for many years and also worked for H & H Grocery in Carmine for several years. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church at Welcome and was active in the Women of the E.L.C.A. She was a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge #151 in Round Top, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #602 in Shelby, and was a longtime supporter of the Industry VFD. She enjoyed dominos and playing cards and deeply loved her family and was very proud of them. Mrs. Spiess passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, in the Brenham hospital at the age of 87 years and 28 days. She is preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Anna (Monsees) Schoenemann; her husbands, Emil Naegeli and Robert Spiess; brothers, Walter, John, Herman and William Schoenemann; sisters, Lillian Wagner, Mamie Rosenbaum, Esther Rosenbaum and Ruby Shannon. Survivors include: Daughters, Virginia Loewe and husband Raymond of Hockley and Sharon Richter and husband Robert of Pearland; grandchildren, Ricky Loewe and wife Belinda, Randy Loewe and wife Lela, Rodney Loewe and wife Robin, Ryan Loewe and wife Jeannenne, Stephanie Reuter and husband John, Melissa Richter; great grandchildren, Ross, Robert, Kelsi, Rylan, Rhett, Raeanne, Rayce, Reed, Randın and Jayden Loewe, Chase and Ashlee Reuter; sisters-in-law, Emma Naegeli of Brenham, Minnie Washam and Leona Spiess, both of Welcome; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Edward Lee ³Red² Eben and Delroy and Dorothy Gross. Active Pallbearers: Delroy Gross, Mark Hundemer, Randy Klausmeyer, Gayle Krebs, Byron Balke, Mark Wittner, Donald Huebner. Honorary Pallbearers: Nephews, Herman Schoenemann, Floyd Rosenbaum, Ray Gene Rosenbaum, Bobby Lee Rosenbaum, Clyde Wagner, James Shannon. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church at Welcome or the Industry VFD.
