Funeral services for George E. Thompson II, 68, of Round Top and formerly of Cat Spring and Houston were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Koenig & Strickland Chapel in LaGrange. Interment followed in the Florida Chapel Cemetery in Round Top with Military Honors. Friends called at Koenig & Strickland after noon on Monday. Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 10, 1037, in Houston, the son of George Edward and Hazel (Elliott) Thompson. He served in the U.S. Navy after the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1959 on the USS Ernest G. Small as an electricians mate. After the service, he attended college a few years and then began his career as an electrician. He owned several electrical contracting services mainly in the Oilfield Industry. He moved from Houston to the Cat Spring area and was an actively involved in the Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department where he was assistant fire chief. He moved to Round Top in 1997 where he was actively involved in the USS Ernest G. Small reunion groups and was known as ³Tex." He was the San Antonio Reunion Chairman in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbequing and cooking and fixing other people¹s electrical and mechanical ³problems." Mr. Thompson passed away Thursday evening, March 17, 2005, at his residence in Round Top at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 7 days. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel Thompson; son, Bart Thompson. Survivors include: son, George E. Thompson III of Sealy; (2) sisters, Sally Mahaffey of Houston and Sandra Curry of Hempstead; special friends, Glenn and Sherri Heintschel of Fayetteville; his faithful companion, Star.
