Funeral Services for Josephine Vasek, 89, of East Bernard, were held Saturday, may 7, at 10 a.m. from Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with the Rev. Don Ruppert celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard. Serving as pallbearers were ivy Gray, Darren Vacek, Shawn Vacek, John richardson, Kristen Vacek and Dana Cavek and Amber Richardson. Born in Hungerford, Josephine was the daughter of John Urban and Julia Zahradnick Patacek, Urban. She was reared in East Bernard and attended Brooksville and Hunger-ford Public Schools. On Sept. 19, 1936 Josephine and Mr. Raymond L. Vacek were married with ceremony held in East Bernard. She worked in the cafeteria at Caney Valley Hospital and in the Custodial Department for East Bernard Independent School District. Josephine was a member of National AARP, East Bernard KJZT, Holy Cross Catholic Church, and was a full time homemaker, wife and loving mother. Josephine Urban Vacek passed away suddenly Thursday, May 5, in Wharton. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law; Betty Jo and Jodie Mazac of Sealy, Bridget and Jerry Willis of Mexia; sons and daughters in law, Daniel R. and Sandy Vacek of East Bernard, Raymond and Deborah Vacek of Clear Lake Shores; Carol Vacek of Houston; sister: Sophie Scholtz of Wharton; step sisters: Mary Townsend of El Campo, Julia Bartos of Wharton, Barbara Brinks of Angleton, Annie Maly of East Bernard; 8 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents: John and Julia Urban; husband; Raymond L. Cacek; two sons: Michael and Victor Vacek; grandson: Joey Mazac; two brothers: John Urban and Frank Patacek; and sisters: Francis and Rosie Zprnak. Services held by Knesek & Sons Funeral Home in Wallis.
