Jewel Prather Wardlaw was born Aug. 23, 1918 in Baldwin, Miss., the daughter of Esker and Jesker Williams Prather. She was united in marriage on Oct. 6, 1935 in Mississippi to Henry Wardlaw; they made their home in Brownwood, Texas from 1947 to 2001. Jewel enjoyed being a homemaker and an active member of the Coggins Avenue Baptist Church of Brown-wood and the First Baptist Church of Bellville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, in 1993, great grandson, Collin Thompson, in 1995 and brother, Paul Prather, in 2005. Jewel passed away Monday, July 11, 2005 in Bellville at the age of 86. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Harrell and her husband, Doug, of Katy; granddaughters Debbie Fontenot and husband, Ricky, of Katy, Shelli Thompson and her fiancé, Mark Summers, of Katy; great grandchildren Ashlee and Courtnee Fontenot, Corey, Caitlin and Carli Thompson and Joshua Summers; sister-in-law Mildred Prather; and nephews Paul E. Prather and his wife, Susan, and Brent Prather and his wife, Vickie. Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville. Graveside Service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas with Dr. Larry Maddox officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances, family requests that friends make memorial gifts to either the Central Baptist Church at 2855 Greenhouse Road, Houston, Texas 77084 or to the First Baptist Church at 504 East Strauss Street, Bellville, Texas 77418.
