Harriet H. "Harry" Wittneben was born August 27, 1927 in the Salem Community in Washington County. The son of Herbert and Meta Schroeder Wittneben, Harry grew up and attended school in the Salem Community. On December 4, 1927 he was baptized at the Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome, Texas. He was confirmed on April 18, 1943 in the same church. Harry served his country in the United States Army Air Corpse during World War II. He married Doris Loesch at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem on June 30, 1951. Harry and Doris have made their home in Bellville where together they owned and operated Harry's Superette and have been members of St. John Lutheran Church. A former Real Estate Agent with Bill Johnson and Associates, Harry had served on the church council for a number of years and as a Director of the Austin County State Bank. He was also a member of the Bellville Lions Club. Harry passed away Thursday, November 3 at his home in Bellville at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Doris Wittneben of Bellville; son and daughter-in-law: Mitchell and Annette Wittneben of Bryan; and his grandchildren: Isaac and Annika Wittneben also of Bryan. Also surviving are his nephew: Wilbert Rathke and his wife, Barbara, of Fredericksburg; great nephew: Matthew Rathke and his wife, Renee; great great nephew and great great niece: Shelby and Gretchen Ratchke; all of Frisco. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and August Henske Loesch, and his sister-in-law, Verlin and Alvin Rathke. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 6 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with Pastor Jennie Jones and Pastor David Henske officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Knoll Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lilburn Meier, Leonard Wittneben, robert Wittneben, Bill Johnson, Charles Crawford and Burney Boecker. Honorary Pallbearers were Nathan Hale and Jason Wallace.
