A memorial service for Delores Strauss Saliba 93, of Bellville, was held Sunday, Jan. 15, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bob Gribble officiating. Ms. Saliba died Jan. 12 at home. Born in Bellville, "Aunt Dee" was the daughter of Charles Strauss and Lottie (Granau) Strauss. She was raised and went to school in Bellville. Delores attended college at Texas Women's University in Waco where she received a B.S. in Nutrition and became a Registered Dietician. While at TWU she met Dr. Nicholas Saloom Saliba, M.D. from Walsenburg, Colo., who was doing an internship in Waco. On July 6, 1940 Delores Strauss married Dr. Saliba at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bellville. After marriage Dr. and Mrs. Saliba lived in Chicago and Boston, where Dr. Saliba obtained surgical training before settling in Denver where he completed a residency at Presbyterian Hospital then had a private practice until his retirement in 1984. The Salibas were avid fans and followers of the Denver Broncos and C.U. Buffalos. They also loved to garden, cook and enjoy family and friends over a backyard barbecue. "Aunt Dee" is survived by niece Marsha Strauss Hegar, great nephew Chase Strauss Hegar of Bellville, nephew Michael Strauss and wife Agnes of Cat Spring, sister-in-law Doris Strauss of Bellville, and great-niece Melanie Beam and husband Jason of Madisonville, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews living in Colorado. Preceded in death by her parents "Charlie" and Lottie Strauss and husband Dr. Nick who died December 31, 1987.
