Hunt Dudley Charles Hunt was born July 3, 1941 in El Paso, the son of Douglas Charles and Zellie Hysmith Hunt. Active in football and track, he attended Texas City High School before graduating from Chapel Hill High where he set the state record for the 50-yard dash. Dudley served his country in the United States Navy from 1959 - 1965 on the USS Robinson and the USS Gearring. He married Cheryl Johnson on Feb. 6, 1963 in Alta Loma, Texas. Beloved husband, father, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend, Dudley devoted his life to his family and friends. Everybody that knew Dudley loved him. A 40-year law enforcement veteran, he began his career with the Galveston Police Department in 1964. He also worked for the Waller County and Austin County Sheriff's Departments, and the Waller County Constable, retiring as the Chief of Police for the town of San Felipe. Dudley served with the Child Protective Services Board in Angleton, and was appointed Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Angleton Chamber of Commerce. He was also employed as Chief of Security at Cameron Iron Works in Sealy. In 1972, he was selected as one of the Outstanding Men of America. He loved fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, working in his shop and spending time with his family. He passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2007 at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Hunt; son Gene Hunt and his wife, Ellie; daughter Sonia Froehlich and her husband, William, all of Bellville; grandchildren Jeremy Rosales, Jared McCarty, Jacob Hunt, Casey Hunt, Abigail Froehlich and Anna Froehlich; step granddaughter Whitney Froehlich, all of Bellville; father and mother Doug and Sam Hunt of Hempstead; step father E.C. Raborn; mother-in-law Jo Johnson of Bellville; sisters Ceal Wiktorik and her husband, Gary, of Hempstead and Brenda Weisner and her husband, Lou, of Alvin; brother Ricky Hunt and his wife, Pam, also of Hempstead; brother-in-law Bill Johnson of Austin; sister-in-law Janice Day and her husband, Don, also of Austin; adopted daughters Marcy Wylie, Pat Smith and Nancy Jo Wimberly; god daughters Hannah Allison and Rebekah Day; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Zellie Raborn, father-in-law, Bill Johnson and grandparents, Nana and Papa Hunt. Visitation was 6-8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29, 2007 at Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral service was 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at Christian Faith Church with Pastor Lynn Burling, officiating. Graveside service followed at 12:30 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery in Houston. Serving as Pallbearers were: Ricky Hunt, Gary Wiktorik, Wylie Bass, Wade Hunt, Brad Williamson and Bill Johnson, III. Honorary Pallbearers were Chief Malcolm Carter and Sheriff Dwayne Burger. In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the: Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, 1101 Bates, Suite 550, Houston, Texas 77037, or to the Austin County Peace Officers' Association, 201 North Atchison, Sealy, Texas 77474. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
