Tiemann Eleanor (Sefcik) Tiemann, age 95, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2007 at Colonial Belle Nursing Home in Bellville. Born June 9, 1912, in Nelsonville, Texas, Eleanor was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Pavelka) Sefcik. She was baptized in 1912 and confirmed in September, 1925 in the Nelsonville Brethren Church. She attended Nelsonville Public School through the eighth grade, then Bellville High School through grade eleven before attending Sam Houston State in Huntsville for two years where she earned her teaching certificate in 1931. Eleanor taught six years beginning at age 20 in a three room school in Marlow, near Needville, Texas. She then taught one-half year in Temple, Texas. On Nov. 21, 1939, Eleanor married Lester Tiemann in Caldwell, Texas. They made their home in Baytown, Texas for 40 years until Lester's retirement from Humble Oil and Refining Company (now ExxonMobil). They moved back to Nelsonville on January 26, 1979. Eleanor loved taking care of her family. She was a great cook, and enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. She was a lifelong member of Nelsonville Brethren Church, a member of the Christian Sisters and the SPJST Lodge #201 of Bleiblerville and Nelsonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, in 1989; her parents; sisters: Esther and Elda; and brothers: Edmund and Eugene. Eleanor is survived by her son: Virgil Tiemann of Houston; daughter: Diane Detwiler and her husband, David, of Austin; grandchildren: Jeana Ohlen and her husband, Hunter, of Austin, Chris Tiemann of New Braunfels, Ashley Tiemann of San Marcos, Kay Douglas and her husband, Leslie, of Houston, Michael Detwiler and his wife, Lindsey, of Dallas; and great grandchildren: Kyle Ohlen, Haley Ohlen and Lauren Douglas. Survivors also include her sisters-in-law: Mildred Sefcik, Lillie Ahrens, Esther Mikeska and Alicia Tiemann; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007 at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville. Funeral service was 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2007 from Nelsonville Brethren Church with the Rev. Michael Groseclose, officiating. Interment was in Nelsonville National Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Tiemann, Michael Detwiler, Hunter Ohlen, Leslie Douglas, Lanier Ripple, E.W. Sefcik, Jr. and Donald Ahrens. In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the: Nelsonville Brethren Church Building Fund or to Christian Sisters of the Nelsonville Brethren Church, 352 Nelsonville Church Road, Bellville, Texas 77418.
