Harold Roger Luhn, 52, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at his home in Bellville surrounded by
his family.
He was born June 10, 1956, in Bellville. The son of Roger and Florence (Koehn) Luhn, he grew up and
attended school in Bellville, graduating from Bellville High School in 1974.
Even then, Harold had a knack for agriculture. He received the State Lone Star FFA degree in 1973.
Then in 1975, he received the American FFA Degree - the highest degree you can earn as an FFA member.
On April 16, 1977, Harold married Rosie Reznicek in Sealy and together they made their home in
Bellville where they have been active in community affairs.
The Austin County Fair runs deep in the Luhn blood line. Before he was even a year old,
Harold rode on horseback in his first Austin County Fair parade with his mom and dad. Growing up, he exhibited livestock at the fair. Following in his
father’s footsteps, Harold was elected to the Austin County Fair Board of Directors in 1989 and served on the Executive Committee from 1994 - 1997.
In 2003, Harold was elected President of the Austin County Fair and served a 3-year term. He
was currently serving as an advisory director on the board.
A farmer and rancher, Harold was a founding member, Past President and director of the
Bellville FFA Alumni. For the past 10 years, he served on the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Go Texan Contest Committee and was serving as Vice Chairman of
that committee. Harold was also a former director of the Austin County Farm Bureau and the Farm Service Agency.
In 2006, he was awarded the Volunteer of the Year from the Texas Association of Fairs and Events
and was selected as the Lions Club Citizen of the Year for 2007.
An avid supporter of the youth of Austin County, Harold was selected to serve as the Parade Marshal
for the 81st Annual Austin County Fair Parade whose theme was “Great American Heroes.”
He and Rosie have been active members of their church, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in
Bellville, where Harold was also a member of the Holy Name Society.
A devoted husband and father, Harold treasured the time he was able to spend with his
children, and adored his two granddaughters, Mary and Amy. He was a fan of polka music, and he enjoyed restoring and collecting antique tractors.
Harold is survived by his wife of over 31 years, Rosie Luhn of Bellville; daughters and sons-in-law
Laurie and William Haseltine of McKinney, Shawna and Michael Svinky of Katy; grandchildren Mary and Amy Haseltine, upcoming birth of Baby Boy Svinky in April;
mother Florence Luhn of Bellville; brother and sister-in-law Fred and Sherry Luhn, also of Bellville; and many other dear friends and relatives.
Harold was preceded in death by his father, Roger Luhn.
Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church .
Vigil Service was 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008.
Mass of the Resurrection was 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church
with Father Timothy Bucek, Celebrant.
Interment was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Matt Waak, Luther Hueske, Charles Holtkamp, Randall Huffmann, Richard
Huff
and Lonnie Lischka.
Honorary Pallbearers were Austin County Fair Association, Al Holtz, Ronnie Luhn, Curtis
Koehn, Ronnie Koehn, Travis Koehn,
Wilfred Krause
and Dr. Thomas Feeley.
