Alfred L. Pieper, 95, of the New Wehdem Community in Austin County, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center.
Alfred was born February 12, 1913 to John and Laura Poppelmeyer Pieper in New Wehdem. He was baptized April 20, 1913 by Rev. H. C. Poehlmann and confirmed
April 1, 1928 by Rev. M. C. Hoermann both in the St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Alfred attended New Wehdem School. On March 25, 1943, he was
married to Norma Dannhaus in the same church by Rev. H. T. Flachmeier. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Phillippines during World War II as a
cook and a self-taught barber. Alfred worked as a blacksmith, farmer, carpenter and cabinetmaker.
He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church and served on its church council and was a member of the Wonder Hill Shooting Club.
His parents, wife, Norma on October 19, 2007, and granddaughter Brittany Dawn Pieper preceded him in death.
His loving family are his children Larry and Linda Pieper of Brenham, Mary Ann Haarmeyer of Greenwood Village, Colorado, David and Sharon Pieper of Willow
Springs, Texas; grandchildren Kristy and Manar Haffar, Sean Pieper, Megan Pieper, Laura Ashley Pieper and Colton Pieper; brother and sister-in-law Bennie and Erna
Pieper and sister-in-law Manola Dannhaus all of Brenham also numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation was from 6-8: p.m., Friday, March 14, 2008 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008 in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Interim Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Pieper, Robert Pieper, Gary Dannhaus, Lloyd Pieper, Lynn Pieper and Bobbie Pieper.
Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem.
