Cheryl Louise Acebo was born Jan. 22, 1943 in Houston. She was the daughter of Fred W. Sr. and
Hazel Burger. She grew up in the Sealy area and attended Sealy schools.
After graduation she moved to Houston to begin her career and later started a family. In 1985 she
moved back to Sealy with her family. She was a devoted daughter and a wonderful mother and “Nana.”
She was employed with Sealy ISD for 18 years. Though she took her job very seriously and did it
with perfection, she was best known around the district for her unforgettable smile. She was actively involved in Relay for Life, an organization that helps fight
the battle of cancer. She worked with this organization long before her own diagnosis. Cheryl was a member of Second Baptist Church in Katy. She was very devoted
to her church and spiritual beliefs. She loved to travel with her family, especially to Keystone, Colo. and camping at Garner State Park. Cheryl found great peace
working in her flower garden.
She was a natural “green thumb.” She also loved taking care of her cattle. The most remarkable
characteristic about Cheryl was her love for her family. She was there to cheer at every sporting event that her daughters and grandsons were involved in.
She made sure that her family was always together for holidays. Her family was always top priority.
While she was fighting the biggest battle of her life, her main concern was comforting her family and helping them cope with what life threw their way. Cheryl was
a daughter, mother, “Nana”, and dear friend. This world will be a lot less bright without her here. We love you and will miss you everyday.
Cheryl lost her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at her residence in Sealy at
the age of 65. She was surrounded by her family and close friends at her time of passing.
She leaves behind her three daughters, Tracey Louise Roberts and husband, John W. Roberts of Sealy,
Christine Kay Sanchez and husband, Nathaniel Sanchez of Tomball, Kimberley Diane Schroeder and husband, Matthew Schroeder of Katy, five beautiful grandchildren,
Ryan Moseley, Aidan Roberts, Gunnar Sanchez, Cade Schroeder, and the newest edition and first granddaughter, Layla Sanchez. Also surviving Cheryl were her four
brothers, Fred W. Burger, Jr. of Houston, John Royce Burger of Sealy, R. DeWayne Burger of Bellville, Roy Gene Burger of Cat Spring and numerous other relatives
and great friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred W. and Hazel Hargrave Burger and nephew, Justin Burger.
Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of Cheryl Acebo to Relay for Life, American Cancer Society, Austin County Unit, P.O. 501, Bellville, Texas 77418.
