Funeral services for Clint Backhus, 49, of New Ulm, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 from Knesek Bros. Hwy
36 Chapel in Sealy with the Rev. David Henske Officiating.
Interment was in the Wallis City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wade Prause, Ernest Cherico, Kevin Hills , Al
Ripper, Jr., Roger Millican and Eugene Klopton. Honorary pallbearers were Hank Kucera, Micah Hilton, Joel Spiess and Josh Spiess.
Clinton Raye Backhus was born in East Bernard to Carl Backhus and Mary (Walger) Leenen. He lived in both East
Bernard and Sealy but also traveled a lot due to his step-father, Jake Leenenís Navy assignments.
He graduated in 1979 from Sealy High School where he was a star football player.
Clint loved going to local dances especially Riverside in East Bernard. During the summers he worked for his
father, Carl, on his farm, He enjoyed riding the tractors and helping out with everyday farm life. He always said that his work as a farmer was the most
rewarding. Clint loved fishing, watching football, and spending time with his family. Clint touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and
maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
After a short illness, Clint passed away in College Station on Sept. 29, 2009.
He married and had a daughter, Ashley May, in 1985. They lived in Bellville while he worked as a farmer. Shortly
after, in 1989, he welcomed his second daughter. Erika Nicole. Clint was a loving and devoted father to his girls, working hard everyday to provide for his small

spending their time together fishing off the coast and spoiling their grandchildren.
Clint spent his days working for AmeriTrail in Bellville as a welder. He was adept as his trade and was a valued

of Houston , and Ben Spiess of Bellville along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary K. (Walger) Leenen.
