Bellville Times

Alfred Wesley ďAlĒ Bell was born July 15, 1925, in Benbrook, Texas, the son of Robert William and Mary Jane Massey Bell.

He grew up Benbrook and attended school in Fort Worth, graduating from Fort Worth High School.

He served his country in the United States Navy from October, 1943, until his honorable discharge in March, 1946.

Al was united in marriage to Thelma Collier on Jan. 4, 1948, in Fort Worth.

After his stint in the Navy, Al and Thelma made their home in Fort Worth where he pursued his career as a draftsman.  After Alís retirement, he and Thelma relocated to Houston.  They have made their home in Bellville since 1982, where they have been members of the Bellville United Methodist Church.

Al was also a member of the Bellville Lions Club and the Bellville Masonic Lodge #223, AF&AM.

He enjoyed gardening, grafting pecans trees, and woodworking.

He passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, in Bellville at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years Thelma Bell of Bellville; daughter Cathey Fickes and her husband, Gary, of Southlake, Texas; son Wes Bell of Shoreacres, Texas;  grandchildren  Chris Fickes, Jenny Fickes, Corey Fickes and his wife, Kacey, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation was 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.

 Funeral service was 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 with the Rev. Amy Haralson, officiating.

Graveside service under the auspices of the Bellville Masonic Lodge, #223, AF&AM.
