Delmus John “D.J.” Brandt was born April 11, 1922, at home in Bellville, the son of Emil and
Martha Lueckemeyer Brandt.
Delmus was baptized on Aug. 20, 1922, and was confirmed at the Saint John Lutheran Church in
Bellville where he would later marry Evelyn Langberg on Nov. 11, 1944.
Delmus grew up in the Ives Creek Community and attended the Ives Creek School.
He worked on the family farm and cotton gin which his father owned. He enlisted in the United
States Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged.
In 1943, he began working for the Humble Oil and Refining Company, which later became Exxon
Company U.S.A. Delmus was affectionately know as “Pete” to his many friends and co-workers in the oilfield. He was a loyal and dedicated Exxon employee and
retired after 40 years of service.
Delmus enjoyed farming, ranching and selling feed for Nutrena Feeds. His favorite hobbies
were traveling, playing dominoes and barbecuing chicken for his family and friends.
Throughout the years, Delmus especially found joy and contentment on his John Deere tractors
whether it be shredding, discing or planting.
He was a member of the Saint John’s Lutheran Church, Men in Mission and Church Council, Austin
County Farm Bureau, American Legion, Exxon Retirees Club and Cochran and Bellville School Boards for 12 years.
Delmus passed away March 19, 2009, in Bellville at the age of 86.
PawPaw is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; son John Douglas Brandt of Bellville; daughters
Lyndell Aschenbeck and husband, Harvey of Bellville, Barbara Leonard and husband, Dennis of Chicago, Ill., and Kay Sander and husband, Erwin of Brenham;
grandchildren Ross Aschenbeck and wife, Richelle, Neil Aschenbeck and wife, Rebecca, Amy Aschenbeck, Anna Nadasdy and husband, John, Kate Westbrook, Brandt
Westbrook, Brett Sander, Emily Sander, Blake Sander; great grandchildren: Grant Aschenbeck, Shelby Aschenbeck, Brock Aschenbeck, Alexa Aschenbeck, Rex
Aschenbeck, and Abby Aschenbeck and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
Delmus was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Pallbearers: Ross Aschenbeck, Neil Aschenbeck, Brandt Westbrook, John Nadasdy, Blake Sander
and Brett Sander.
Visitation was 5-7 p.m. at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
Funeral service was 3 p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville with
Pastor Jennie Jones and Pastor David Henske, officiating.
Interment was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Bellville.
