Funeral Services for Gracie Vivian Eckelberg, 87, of Sealy were held on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at 10 a.m. from First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Tyler officiating.  Interment followed in the Sealy Cemetery in Sealy.

Serving as pallbearers were Chad Eckelberg, Ryan Eckelberg, Colby Eckelberg, Patrick McNeely, Billy Sisa and Bobby Rochen.

Gracie was born in Bleiblerville, Texas to parents Joe and Albina (Janovsky) Sisa.

She was raised in Nelsonville and attended Nelsonville schools.

On Oct. 27, 1943 the former Miss Gracie Sisa was joined in marriage to Mr. Waco Eckelberg with a ceremony held at Nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville.

Gracie was primarily a homemaker but also worked as a salesclerk for Johnson’s Dry Cleaners, Winn’s, Mikasa, Little B’s and Zapalac’s.  Gracie took pride in her family and particularly enjoyed her grandchildren.  She was their chauffeur, encourager, and confidant.

Gracie particularly enjoyed watching her grandsons play football.  Gracie was also, always ready for a drive to check out the cows.

Gracie was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sealy.

Even when she could not attend, she had her daily devotionals with her Bible and “Upper Room.”

Sundays she enjoyed Joel Olsteen or Joyce Meyer, but was quick to say she would rather be “in church.”

Gracie Eckelberg passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 in Sealy.

Gracie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Joyce Eckelberg of Sealy and Thomas and Linda Eckelberg of Sealy, sisters, Ruth Chovanec of La Grange and Nonie Rochen of Waller, grandchildren, Chad Eckelberg and wife Tracie, Ryan Eckelberg and wife Amanda, Colby Eckelberg and Marcy McNeely and husband Patrick, great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emma, Taylor and Teaghan Eckelberg and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Albina Sisa, husband, Waco Eckelberg, sisters, Vlasta Phol, Beatrice Strokos and Gardenia Sisa, brothers, Joe Sisa, Jr., Franklin Sisa, Ladgie Sisa and Isador Sisa.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 E. Blue Bell, Brenham, Texas 77833 or First United Methodist Church, 200 Atchison, Sealy, Texas 77474.
