James Nathan Hold was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Bellville, Texas, the son of Willie G. and Erna Andreas Hold. He met
and married Emma Decker in Pearland, Texas on Nov.13, 1953. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2008.
James was inducted into the United States Army on May 8, 1956, and was honorably discharged on April 30, 1958. He
proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves until April 30, 1963.
James began his career with the Texas Highway Department on May 15, 1958, and retired on September 29, 1989. He
served as a supervisor from 1970-1980 with the Alvin Maintenance Section, and returned to Bellville May 1, 1980, to assume a supervisory position at the Bellville
Maintenance Section of TX-DOT.
James was a loving husband and father. Baptists by faith, he, Emma, and their son, Keith, were members of the
West End Baptist Church in Industry.

On April 28, 2009, James went to College Station Medical Center to undergo knee surgery.
He passed away from complications Sunday, May 24, 2009, and went to be with his Heavenly Father.
He is survived by his wife: Emma Hold, of Bellville; daughter: Divonna Hold-Irvine and her husband, Ron, of
LaMarque; and son: James Keith Hold of Bellville. James is also survived by his nephew: Ken Holdt of Kingwood, and neice: Diana Holdt-Fox of Pasadena. He was
preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Nathan Hunter Ellisor, and his brother, Wilbert Hold.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville, Texas
with Pastor Dennis Keen officiating.
