Roy began his journey on Sept. 9, 1952 in Hempstead.
He was welcomed into the world by his mother Vivian Hood, father Bennie McKnight, and two siblings Charles “Mac
T” Henry and Terry Tuck. After matriculating through the Waller County school system, he briefly attended Prairie View A&M University. He was employed by
Travis Body & Trailer until spring 2009 with the decline of his health.
He is preceded in death by his mother and brother.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 31 years, Mrs. Betty Browning-Hood of Bellville; four daughters,
Darnette Merriweather (Eric) of Memphis, Tenn.; Bridgette Browning of Madison, N.J.; Rosalyn Hood-Livingston of Prairie View; and Latoya Jackson (Ronnie) of
Bellville; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Dylan, Kordell, Kendallyn, Kaleigh, Bradrick, Cody, Chasity, Kailyn, and Kedrick; one loyal and loving pet, Simba; father
Bennie McKnight; one sister, Terry Tuck of Prairie View; and one aunt Ora Nell McDonald. His cherished family also includes mother-in-law, Maud Browning,
sisters-in-law, Juanita Johnson, Dorothy Hill, Eula Cloud, Gwen Green, Patricia Mosley, Hattie Browning, and Jennifer Erving (Donnie); brothers-in-law Alonzo
Browning (Ella) and Wayne Browning (Tita), two godsons Nicholas Mosley and Terrence Bryant and a host of nieces, nephews including Chad Paris, Brad Barnett,
Shawneequa Tuck, and Charles Tuck; cousins, friends, and special friends Willie and Carolyn Houston.
He united with Historic Allen AME Church and served on the trustee board, usher board, men’s chorus, and Sons of
Roy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed landscaping, welding, and working with his hands. He received great
pleasure out of helping others and being a friend. He enjoyed most of all being with family and sharing the simple things in life. He will truly be missed by all.
Funeral services for Mr. Roy Hood were held Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at Historic Allen AME Church with Reverend
Dr. William Quickley officiating.
Active pallbearers were Steve Adams, Donnie Ervin, Floyd Anderson, Willie Houston, Rev. Willie Cloud, Jr., Jerry
Machac, Don Dunham, and Sam Minor.
Honorary pallbearers were Ricky Anderson, Ronnie Jackson, Chad Paris, Brad Barnett, Rev. Kirby Johnson, O.J.
Riley, Dadrian Browning, Melvin Kennard, Rev. Ray Riley, Tremayl Cloud, Otis Maresh, Charles Tuck, Calvin Jackson, Eric Merriweather, Kenneth Turner, and William
Interment followed at Gilbert Chapel Cemetery in Kenney, Texas.
