Bellville Times

Keith Robert Kidwell, loving husband and devoted father, grandfather, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 21, 2009 in Bryan, at the age of 69.

He had been a longtime resident of Bellville in Austin County for 37 years.

Born March 5, 1940 in Clifton, Texas, he was the only child of Robert and Lurlene Kidwell.

Raised in Houston and Bryan, Keith graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1958. He continued his education and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1963.

On Feb. 22, 1964 Keith married Mary Nell Lange and they moved to Houston, where children Kimberly and Todd were born.

While in Houston, Keith worked for the Department of Agriculture.

In 1973, Keith moved his family to Bellville and he began his life-long career in banking and being an active citizen in the community.

Just this past December, Keith retired as President and CEO of First National Bank of Bellville. He was currently serving as a Director of First National Bank of Bellville, Director of Citizens State Bank in Buffalo, Texas, and as an Advisory Director of Industry Bank Shares.

Through the years he has been involved in numerous community service organizations.

Keith was a past president of the Bellville Lions Club; Past President of the Bellville Industrial Foundation; Past President of the Bellville Hospital Authority Board of Directors; and was chairman of the Hospital Foundation for the past 12 years. He has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce; served as a committee member for the Austin County Fair Association, as well as, a committee member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Committee.

Keith was also an active member of the Bellville Methodist Church and had served on various committees. Keith’s entire life was centered around his family and work. When he did have time to call his own, he enjoyed raising cattle, spending time at his place in the country, playing golf, family vacations, reading good books, quality time with friends, enjoying the backyard retreat and loving every minute that he spent with his loving family.

Keith will be remembered fondly for his generosity and honesty, his dignified sense of fairness, and foremost the integrity that was a constant with every person he came in contact.

Keith is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lurlene Kidwell, and son Todd Lange Kidwell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Nell Kidwell; his daughter, Kim Zapalac and her husband, Steve; and grandchildren Jordan and Brady Zapalac, his pride and joy. Keith is also survived by special friend Susan Brewer and numerous family and friends.

The Kidwell family received visitors on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Knesek Brothers Funeral Chapel in Bellville.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Bellville United Methodist Church.

Serving as pallbearers were: Tommy Baker, Bob Beamon, Newton Boriack, Gene Goolsby, Harry Jordan, Leroy Keaton, Bobby Lange, Carlos Loeffler.

Honorary pallbearers were: Directors of First National Bank of Bellville, Mike Aldredge, Troy Byler, Nelson Davis, Kyle Holloway, Carl Hubble, Vit Janda, Steve Lackey, Billy Lange, Brad Lindemann, Jim Lindemann, C. A. Menke, Gene Menn, Mike Mueller, Dr. Bob Neely, Sammy Pierce, Louis Vacek, Steve Zapalac.
