Dennis Earl August Remmert was born April 27, 1917, in Sealy, Texas to Louis and Emma Hartman Remmert. He was baptized May 20, 1917, and confirmed June 21, 1931, in the Lutheran faith. On November 20, 1938, Dennis married Vera Mae Goeke at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy and together they made their home in Bellville where they were life long residents. Dennis and Vera Mae were avid servants of the Lord. He taught Sunday School for 25 years, served as a church youth counselor for 15 years, worked the Annual Church Barbeque for 20 plus years, served as the church President of AAL for 40 years, attended Trinity Lutheran Church regularly, and worked in The Good Samaritan Shop in Sealy for 24 1/2 years. Dennis also operated a service station in Bellville for 44 years, served on the BISD school board, and was involved with the Boy Scouts. After retiring, Dennis and Vera enjoyed visiting people in the nursing homes. His hobbies included gardening (he always gave away vegetables and fruits from his garden and trees), spending time with his large family, and fishing whenever and wherever he could with Vera. Together, Dennis and Vera Mae had six children: five daughters and a son. They proudly have 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Dennis passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Bellville at the age of 91. He is survived by daughters Kathleen Slovak and husband, Sonny, of Bellville, Betty Thomas and husband, Perry, of Brenham, Judy Robertson and husband, Ronnie of Bellville, Nancy Krueger and husband, Gary, of Bellville, Christine Pieper and husband, Jerry, of Brenham, and sister-in-law, Sidney Dell Remmert, of Sealy. Grandchildren include: Valerie Babin and husband, David, Buddy Slovak and wife Christine, Melanie Wesolick, Danny Slovak, Mae Hintzel and husband, Mike, Vicki Swonke and husband, Gene, Shannon Thomas and wife, Anne, Steven Robertson and wife, Shannon, Craig Robertson and wife, Jeanie, Todd Krueger and wife, Brandi, Christopher Krueger and special friend, Anna, Mandy Pieper and special friend, Steven, and Shawna Pieper and special friend, Ben. Great-grandchildren include: Kayleigh, Stephen,  and Allayne Babin, Regan Slovak, Logan, Jordan, and Caitlin Slovak, Cody Wesolick, Dakota and Dawnielle Slovak, Travis and Mary Hintzel, David Hintzel, Kelsey, Kendall, and Kolton Swonke, James Thomas, Lane Robertson, Austin, Lorin, and Gracie Robertson, and Kerby Krueger. Great-great grandchild is Perry Hintzel.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Kenneth and Roland, and his wife Vera Mae, and his son, Earl Ray Remmert.

Visitation was at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville, Texas.

Pallbearers were: Steven Robertson, Craig Robertson, Todd Krueger, Chris Krueger, Gene Swonke, and David Babin.

The funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Jennie Jones and Pastor David Henske officiating.

Interment was at Oak Knoll Cemetery.
