Alvin R. Schulz, Sr., 96, of Bleiblerville passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 in Trinity Medical Center.
Mr. Schulz was born July 20, 1912 in the Bleiblerville Community to Alfred and Frieda Glaeser Schulz.
He was baptized Aug. 28, 1912 by Pastor August Beteit and confirmed on April 10, 1927 by Pastor Jacob Appel both
in Welcome Lutheran Church.
He attended Scranton Grove and Welcome Salem Schools.
On Oct. 15, 1940, he was united in marriage to Esther Emma Koehler in Welcome Lutheran Church by Pastor I. M.
Mansur.
His employment included farming and ranching, Austin County Road and Bridge (9 years), Bellville ISD bus driver
(4 years), manager of Theldick Brangus Ranch (15 years) and Texas Refinery Corporation (20 years).
Mr. Schulz was a life-long member of Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome, president of church council when the
present church was built, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher for 46 years, member of choir for 30 years and Men’s Organization.
Other memberships include: Austin County Livestock Association, Austin County Fair Director, Austin County Beef
and Forage Committee, Tri-Community Club, Austin County Farm Bureau since 1946 serving as Director for 28 years, Director of Austin County Soil and Water
Conservation District #347 since 1969, member of Industry/West End Lions Club for 10 years, Bellville Lions Club since 1982 where he was awarded lifelong
membership, President of Bluebonnet Branch of Lutheran Brotherhood, Bleiblerville Volunteer Fire Department, Welcome School trustee and PTO.
He loved to play Skat, pitch, dominoes, fishing, dancing and singing.
His parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Otto and Lisette Wensel Koehler; sister Etta Waag; brothers-in-law
Arthur Kalbow, Leslie Waag, Henry Dusek, Lee Koehler, Emmit Schultz; sisters-in-law Leona Schultz, Adeline Koehler and niece Cheryl Kalbow Welsh preceded him in
death.
Mr. Schulz is survived by his loving family: wife of 68 years, Esther Koehler Schulz; son and daughter-in-law,
Alvin, Jr. and Judy Schulz; daughters and sons-in-law, Vernell Lois and Allen Schubert, Diana Kay Krause-Lampe and Donald Lampe, Sandra Louise and Douglas
Borchardt; grandchildren, Gregg and Candy Schubert, Scottie and Rachel Schubert, Rodney and Diane Schubert, Gina and Lee Miles, Dwayne and Kerry Schulz, Danny and
Candace Schulz, Darrel and Angela Schulz, Randy and Kami Krause, Kim Krause and special friend Farrell Luedke, Kelly and Alan Hodde, Alison Borchardt, Justin
Borchardt; step-grandchildren, Shannon and Keith Bullin, Matt and Michelle Lampe; great-grandchildren, Angie and Nathan Grawunder, Brady Schubert and friend Jamie
Locke, Hunter Schubert, Lauren and Brady Lee, Lindsey Schubert, Kinch Schubert, Jared Schubert, Clayton Schubert, Glenn Miles, Jake Miles, Sean Schulz, Britani
Schulz, Walker Schulz, Caroline Schulz, Aiden Schulz, Nicholas Krause, Kamryn Krause, Avery Hodde; step-great-grandchildren, Bailey Bullin, Brad Bullin, Megan
Lampe, Mason Lampe; great-great grandchildren, Jenna Lee, Layne Grawunder; brother, The Rev. Leslie Schulz and wife Margaret; sister, Laverne Kalbow;
sister-in-law, Elda Dusek; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation with the Schulz family was Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service was Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 10 a.m., in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome. The Rev.
David M. Klak officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters and spouses; friends Jimmy and Carolyn
Balke, Billie Warmke, Charles and Vicky Goeke, Don Abel and members of Austin County Soil and Water District Board #347 and members of Bellville Lions Club.
Memorials may be given to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome General Fund or Building Fund,
