Ralph Eugene Smelser, Jr. was born Nov. 28, 1949, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., the son of Ralph, Sr. and Avadel Smelser.
He grew up and attended schools in Malden, Mo., graduating from Whitehaven High School in Memphis, Tenn.
In 1967, Ralph enlisted in the Tennesse Air National Guard.
He was united in marriage to Janet Latham on July 2, 1971, in Verona, Miss. They made their home in Memphis until
1977, when they moved to Louisana.
Ralph retired from the Air Force in 1989 after 22 years of service.
In 2005, they moved to Georgetown, Texas and have made their home in Bellville since 2007.
Ralph’s hobbies had been photography, target shooting, gunsmithing, and computers. Most importantly, he enjoyed
He passed away , Friday, July 3, 2009, in Bellville at the age of 59.
He is survived by his wife: Janet Smelser of Bellville; children: Karen van Hal and her husband, Rudi, of
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Teresa Acosta and her husband, Rick, of Gretna, La., and Lisa Smelser of Bellville; grandchildren: Emily and Rebecca val Hal, Anthony
Acosta, Ehren Smelser and Kyra Smelser. Ralph is also survived by his sisters: Cheri Smith and her husband, Reggie, Sr., of Georgia, and Tammy Meyers and her
husband, Greg, of Florida; and brother: John Smelser and his wife, Michelle, of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements under the direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
