Steinbach
Funeral Services for Edgar John Steinbach, 79, of Bellville were held on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at 10
a.m. from Bellville United Methodist Church, with Amy Haralson, officiating.
Interment followed in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Brach Tipton, Corey Tipton, Royce
Garling, Gary Grawunder, Warren Klump, Mark Arning, Gene Zapalac and Arleigh Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Bellville Volunteer Fire
Department.
Edgar John Steinbach was born on Dec. 28, 1929 in Gay Hill, Washington County, son of Fred John Steinbach
and Minnie Folterman Steinbach.
He attended local schools. On April 2, 1944 Edgar confirmed his faith becoming a member of St. Mathews
Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill, TX. Edgar was drafted into the Marine Corp on Nov. 8, 1951 and served in Korea for 2 years, 2 months.
After retuning from the service he worked for Dhelrite Creamery in Bellville delivering milk.
He made deliveries of sweetened condensed milk to Blue Bell Creameries in Brenham. He married the
former Miss Carrie Garling of Bellville on Jan. 23, 1954. Edgar then went to work for Hausmann Wholesale Company of Brenham and moved his family to
Bellville where he worked for Minemax Grocery as a butcher and later for his dear friend Harry Wittneben as a butcher and assistant manager of Harry’s Superette.
Edgar was also employed as a mechanic for Ralph Hirsch and Henry Grawunder. He was an active member of the Bellville community. Edgar joined the Bellville
Volunteer Fire Department in 1961 serving a total of 31 years. His first fire was the county courthouse. Beginning in 1969 he served as fire chief for 10 years
followed by another five years as fire marshal. Edgar was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of the
National Rifleman’s Assoc. and the Austin County Farm Bureau. In 1976 Edgar and Carrie moved their church membership to the United Methodist Church of
Bellville. Edgar served his church as an usher and communion assistant.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Steinbach of Bellville, daughter, Rebecca Tipton and husband, Dennis
of Bay City, son, John Steinbach and wife, Deborah of League City, sister-in-law, Jeanette Steinbach of San Diego, Calif., grandchildren, Devon Tipton Singh and
Brack Tipton, both of The Woodlands and Corey Tipton of Waco, nieces, Janice Loesch of Brenham, Rene Bridge of San Diego, Calif., and nephew, Rawls Steinbach of
Anaheim, Calif.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Colletta Steinbach, sister, Grace Holdtkamp and
brother Leon Steinbach.
