Irene Laura (Schubert) Stuessel was born Feb. 2, 1922 in Peters Community.
She died, Friday, April 23, 2009, in Sealy.
She was the daughter of Willie and Laura Ludwig Schubert. Reared in Peters Community, she attended
A member of Peters Methodist Church she was baptized May 28, 1922 and confirmed February 14, 1937.
She was married to Harvey Stuessel in the Cat Spring Lutheran Church on June 28, 1940.
On Jan. 2, 1944 she joined the St. Peters Lutheran Church. Later she joined St. Johnís Lutheran
Church of Bellville where her current membership remains.
Irene was a lifelong housewife. She worked side by side with her husband, Harvey on their farm. An
avid gardener, she always enjoyed tending her vegetable garden and flowers.
One of her favorite pastimes was canning pickles and making jelly. Both were favorites of her
grandchildren. She loved to sew and kept a constant supply of stuffed animals for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Irene loved animals and always enjoyed having them around. She and Harvey never missed a chance to
dance. In the past few years she served on the hospitality committee at St. Johns and for the local AARP. She will be missed by all.
Irene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Betty Jean and John Pomykal of San Antonio, and
her son and daughter-in-law Harvey, Jr., and Joan Stuessel of Sealy. Four grandchildren: Dana Pomykal-Franz and (David Franz) of Starkville, MS, Carla Lockett and
(Dale Lockett) of San Antonio, TX, Shelley Welch of Beaumont, and Greg Stuessel of Sealy. Four great grandchildren Joshua and Jonathan Franz, Bethany and Andrew
Lockett. Brother and sister-in-law; Edward Earl Schubert and Mauldine and sister-in-law; Burnita Dittmar. She was preceded in death by her parents Willie and
Laura Schubert, and infant brother and her husband, Harvey Stuessel.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from the St. Johnís Lutheran Church,
520 North Holland, Bellville, with the Rev. Jeannie Jones and the Rev. David Henske, officiating.
Burial was in Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville.
Pallbearers were Greg Stuessel, Dale Lockett, David Franz, Joshua Franz, Douglas Viereck and Wesley
Dittmar. Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Greg, Shelley, Dana, Carla, Joshua, Jonathan, Bethany, and Andrew.
Visitation was held Friday, April 24, 2009, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Knesek Bros Hwy 36 Chapel,
1140 Meyer Street, Sealy.
