Funeral services for Sam Tolbirt, Jr., 82, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Sealy with Msgr. B. J. Zientek celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal.
Interment was in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service were Kenny Fritsch, Larry Fritsch, James McElroy, Nick Tirey, Randall
Becker and Wilbert Wendt, Jr.
Sam passed away on Aug. 21, 2009 in Sealy.
Samuel Elton Tolbirt, Jr. was born in Columbus to parents Samuel Elton Tolbirt, Sr. and
Augusta Mangliers Tolbirt. He was raised in Columbus where he graduated from high school then attended Tarleton College.
Sam married the former Miss Lee Anna Fritsch on Feb. 22, 1954 in Columbus.
He was owner/operator of a car dealership and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church,
Sealy American Legion, 100 Club of Sealy, Nature Conservancy, Austin County Farm Bureau, Friends of San Felipe State Historical Park and AARP. He was a former
member of Sealy Chamber of Commerce, Sealy Lions Club, Columbus and Sealy Knights of Columbus, served on the Sealy Catholic School board, a member of the Stephen
F. Austin Golf Club and the National Rifle Association.
Sam also played saxophone and clarinet with the Joe Cervenka Dance Band.
Sam served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife Lee Anna Tolbirt, sister, Peggy Dierschke, brother- in-law and
sister-in-law, L.H. and Dolores Fritsch and niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Sam and Augusta Tolbirt.
