Jennie Sybil (Sledge) Turner was born Jan. 6, 1923,in LaGrange, Ga., the daughter of Edwin P. and
Ada Belle (Jenkins) Sledge.
She grew up and attended schools in LaGrange, graduating from LaGrange High School.
Sybil graduated from the Emory University in Atlanta where she received her Bachelors Degree in
An Episcopalian by faith, she was united in marriage to John M. Turner on Feb. 27, 1947, in
Merrietta, Ga. Sybil and John made their home in Canton, Ga. before moving to Sycamore, Mo. and then to Bellville.
She was a member of the Emory Alumni, LaGrange College Alumni and the Bellville Quilt Guild.
Sybil enjoyed bridge and quilting. The love of her life was her grandchildren and great grandson.
Sybil passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in Bellville at the age of 86.
She is survived by her daughter: Jennie S. Turner Farrar and her husband, Marshall, of Bandera and
son: Jack Turner of Bellville. She is also survived by her grandson: Robert McFarland of Bandera, granddaughter: Shandale Mewis of Spring and great
grandson: Matthew McFarland of Bandera.
Sybil was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John, on Nov. 29, 1977.
Memorial service was 1:30 p.m. on March 9, 2009 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Bob
