Funeral services for Kerby Joe Zanek, 74, of Bellville, TX were held on Saturday, August 15, 2009
at 2:00 PM from St John Lutheran Church with Rev. Jennie Jones & Rev. David Henske, officiating. Interment followed in Millheim Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Buddy Chase, Blake Shedd, Bubba Maresh, Justin Maresh, Jimmy Zanek and Dennis
Gloyna. Honorary Pallbearers were Joshua Zanek, Dale Cannon, Bruce Morlock, St John Retreat Center Volunteers and the cancer drivers.
Kerby was born in his home on October 8, 1934 to Edgar and Esther (Maresh) Zanek in New Bremen. He
was raised in the Bellville and New Bremen area. Kerby was baptized into the Brethren faith in 1935 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1949. On August 25,
1963 he was united in marriage to the former Miss Delois Garling at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. Kirby served in the US Army. He retired from the US
Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of the American Legion Post #522 of Bellville, one of the founders of the Austin County Rifle & Pistol
Club and a lifetime member of the NRA. As a active member of St. John Lutheran Church he served two terms on the Church Council, was a member of the menís
choir, a retreat center volunteer, van driver, assistant superintendent for Sunday School, a funeral usher and a maintenance man for over 9 years, but he was most
proud of the fact that he was the Snack-man for the Midweek Childrenís Group. Kerby passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in Bellville.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Zanek Voelkel and husband, Steve, son Nathen Zanek, sister,
June Zanek Hart, brother Edgar Zanek, Jr. and wife, Doris all of Bellville, grandchildren, Brayden, Lois-Anna and Wegner Voelkel along with numerous nieces,
nephews, and friends.
Kerby was preceded in death by his parents, wife, nieces, Brenda Zanek and Judy Gloyne.
