Dorothy Carol Daniel Clegg, passed away on Monday June 28,
2010 in San Antonio at the age of 83. A graveside service and interment at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery near Bellville was held for the family on Saturday July 3.
She was born March 22, 1927, in Ochiltree County, Texas, the
daughter of Dolph and Lena Hunt Daniel. She was a 7th generation Texan and a resident of Austin County and Bellville for over 25 years.
She grew up in the Panhandle of Texas, graduated from Spearman
High School and attended West Texas State University. Her family moved to Simonton, Texas in 1946 and she became a teacher at Katy Elementary School.
During this time she met a young Humble Oil engineer working at
the Katy Gas Plant. She and Millard F. Clegg were wed at the Hunt Farm near Simonton on June 14, 1947 and were happily married for over 62 years. They lived in
Houston for many years before finally building their “dream home” in Austin County in the 1970’s. She and her husband Millard had been residents of Boerne,
Texas the past five years.
Dorothy loved spending time with her husband and family and her
horses at their farm near Kenney, and later her home in Bellville, and always loved the visits by her children and their families.
She loved decorating and entertaining the entire family on
holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas.
She was a member and past President of the Bluebonnet Society of
Bellville and the Ladies Golf Club. She was also a volunteer for many years at the Bellville Hospital. She was an avid bridge player and hosted many bridge
parties during her years in Bellville.
Dorothy is survived by her sons: Brantley Clegg and his
wife, Magda, of Houston, Dan Clegg and his wife, Laura, of Howard, Colorado and Bruce Clegg of Katy; daughter: Ellen Gamble and her husband, Jerry, of
Boerne. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren who affectionately called her Granny; brother in law: Joe Dunn Clegg and his
wife, Margaret, of Houston, sister-in-law: Edwina Daniel of Pipe Creek, Texas. Many loving nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many dear friends in
Houston, Bellville and Boerne, also survive her. She was loved and cherished by us all and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Millard; her parents
Dolph and Lena Daniel; her sister Jerry Lyons and her brother D.R. Daniel.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a memorial service
to celebrate her life from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday July 24 at the Bellville Golf Club, Hwy 36 North in Bellville, Texas. Food and refreshments will be
