FRANCES JOHNSON FIEW

Bellville Times

Frances Fiew is now “Absent from the body and present with the Lord.” She passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 at the age of 87.

Frances was born on Dec. 1, 1923 in Bullard , Texas .  She met and married Norvell “Buddy” Fiew of Cordele in Humble in 1946.

He served in Three Theatres of WWII and was instrumental in liberating Jewish Concentration Camps in Germany .  His branch of service was the Corp of Engineers Co. “E” 111th Engineer Combat Regiment.

Buddy and Frances lived in Bellville before moving to Edna.

While in Bellville Frances had her own beauty salon and eventually achieved a membership in the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

Also while in Bellville, they adopted Calvin Scott (6 yrs old) and Sherrilynn (3 yrs old).

They attended First Baptist Church of Bellville. This fellowship of believers helped Frances battle the disease of Polymyalgia Rheumatica.

This disease eventually caused her blindness. She has also struggled with diabetes and congestive heart failure. These “weaknesses” made her strong and determined to be the best she could be.

She loved being in her home with her beloved poodle, Apricot, and co-workers on a part-time basis.  She never lost her sense of humor and positive attitude.  Always looking for something “fun” to do.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Sherrilynn Fiew of Santa Fe ; one granddaughter; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Annie Hunter Johnson; husband, Buddy Fiew; son, Calvin Scott Fiew; four sisters; and one brother.

Visitation was from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Oaklawn Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, in Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery .

Frances loved being with her friends and co-workers at Eddie’s Barber & Beauty Salon who loved her dearly. She was so thankful for the wonderful care and support she received over the years from Edna EMS, Citizens Hospital , Home Health Services in Ganado, and Jackson County Hospital .

DEAR ONE, YOU WILL BE MISSED.  GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS!

Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221.
