Gregor
Pastor Milroy August Gregor of New Ulm passed away on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at his home. He was 81.
He was born July 6, 1929, in the Mill Creek community of Washington County, the son of the late Albert and Frieda
(Fiesler) Gregor.
He was the husband of Sugar Mae (Shunka) Gregor of New Ulm, his wife of 46 years.
He was a graduate of Brenham High School. Following God’s call on his life into the pastorate, he earned his
bachelor’s degree from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin and his Master of Theology from Wartburg Theological Seminary of Dubuque, Iowa.
The Lutheran Church ordained Milroy Gregor on June 19, 1955. In 2005, Milroy celebrated the 50th anniversary of
his ordination.
An Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) pastor, Milroy Gregor was called to serve as Pastor to the
congregations at Frelsburg-New Ulm-Fayetteville, Grace Lutheran Church of Eagle Lake, St. John’s Lutheran Church of Meyersville and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of
Round Top.
In addition, he served as visitation Pastor for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham and most recently at St.
John Lutheran Church of Bellville. Over the years, he also served as a supply pastor in a number of local congregations.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Milroy always had time to share a story or listen to one that
you had to share. He lived a life filled with grace, compassion and service to the communities where God called him. Friends and family will miss his
humble, caring spirit.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their two children, Brady and wife Cindy Gregor of Carmine, and Yvonne
and husband Eric Brast of Bellville; grandchildren, Jenna Gregor, Karra Gregor and Elliott Brast. Milroy was looking forward to the birth of a second grandson,
Eli Christian Brast, later this month. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Almot “Buddy” Gregor of Robstown, Mildred Helm of
Houston, Edith and James Lehmann of Brenham, Luther and Ora Lee Gregor of Brenham and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law,
Elgin Shunka of New Ulm, and Jodie Shunka and wife Verdine of Houston.
Milroy was preceded in death by his sister Olivia Goerlitz of Giddings.
Funeral Service was held Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at 10:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church of Bellville.
Interment followed in the New Ulm Cemetery with refreshments following at St. John’s Parish Hall in New Ulm.
The family received friends Monday, Dec. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make memorial contributions to your local community’s Lutheran
