Gloria Ann Hopkins, a loving wife, mother, grammy, and friend,
passed away peacefully on Saturday the 19th of June, 2010.
Gloria was born on the 5th of January, 1940, in Bellville,
Texas. She was the only child of Viola and Milton Stuessel. Gloria spent her childhood years on her family’s farm in Cat Spring, Texas. She
graduated from Bellville High School and attended Blinn Junior College. It was during her sophomore year of high school that she met her true love and best
friend, James Carl Hopkins, Jr. They married in 1960 and made their home in Rosenberg, Texas. Gloria raised a happy family, partnered with her husband
in building a successful CPA practice, faithfully served her community, and loved every minute of the 49 years and 6 months she and Carl spent together.
She was a wonderful mother to her daughter and son, and a loving grammy to her four grandchildren.
Blessed with a creative mind and an adventuresome spirit, Gloria
loved to paint, sew, cook, travel, go to the theatre, and garden - but, more than anything, Gloria loved to watch her children and grandchildren in all of their
various activities. Sporting events, band and choir performances, dance recitals, talent shows, plays, debates - Gloria never missed an opportunity to
support her family. Gloria was a member of Rosenberg Brethren Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of Hermann. She was an
active participant of the Rosenberg Downtown Development Association and served three years as President of the City of Rosenberg’s Beautification Committee.
Gloria is survived by her devoted husband, James Carl Hopkins,
Jr., daughter, Catherine Engelbrecht and her husband, Bryan, son, James Hopkins and his wife, Vy, grandchildren, William Engelbrecht, Elizabeth Engelbrecht,
Catherine Reese Hopkins, Madeline Hopkins, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gloria and her family were blessed by the support of her three
caregivers, Josephina Haro, Annette Bertrand, and Lillie Alvarez, her doctors Dr. Eugene Lai and Dr. Ivan Mefford, Oak Bend Hospital and Houston Hospice.
