Bill McDaniel went to be with the Lord on March 21 at the age of 89.
Bill was the 9th of 14 children born to Eula and Lon McDaniel in Terrell, Texas on the 4th of July, 1920.
In 1921, the family moved to the Rio Grande Valley from Terrell to farm. In 1940, Bill “hitch-hiked” off to
Baylor University. After a year at Baylor, he transferred to Howard Payne University in Brownwood where he earned his BS degree and met the love of his life,
Lucile Trussell. They were married 42 years before she was killed in a car accident in 1986.
After graduating from Howard Payne in 1944, he and Lucile attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth.
Bill became the pastor of First Baptist Church Waller in 1946 where he guided the church in a building program.
Bill and Lucile were called to the First Baptist Church in Bellville where he pastored for 9 years and in that
time helped them build 2 churches and a new parsonage.
From Bellville, they moved to Raymondville in 1960, where he pastored for 5 years leading them in building a
Mexican Mission of the First Baptist Church and a new parsonage. He also served on the board at Valley Baptist Hospital. From Raymondville, he moved to Sinton in
1965 where he pastored for 12 years.
During his pastorate there, he served on the board of Zephyr Baptist Encampment at Mathis. In 1977, they moved to
San Antonio to become the vice president of Development of the Mexican Baptist Bible Institute.
Bill was talented with the gift of building with his hands and pasturing his congregation. He loved to visit his
“flock”. He continued to perform weddings and funerals in previous pastorates long after he’d retired.
In the 24 years between Lucile’s death and his death, he loved having his family come to his home for all
holiday celebrations. He loved it the most when he’d look around the dining room table and every kid and grandkid was present. He didn’t like to have anyone
missing from the gathering.
Bill was preceded in death, by his parents, Eula and Lon McDaniel, 9 of his brother and sisters, his wife, Lucile,
and her parents, Joe and Eddie Trussell.
He is survived by his children; son, B.J. McDaniel and wife, Roxanne; daughters, Sophia Faulkner and husband,
Steve, and Ruth Lynne Thames and husband, Bill; grandchildren, James Thames, Tara Thames Ellis and husband, Drew, Kristen Faulkner Ivy and husband, Rick, Bo
Faulkner and wife, Courtney, Derek McDaniel and wife, Cassie; great grandchildren, Bailey Ellis, Morgan Ellis, Dalton Ellis, Sterling Ellis, Craig Ivy and Julie
