Arthur Roy Price, Jan. 28, 1931 to Jan. 9, 2010 was born in the Houston Heights of parents Arthur E. and Alta
Brown Price. Attended John H. Reagan High School, where he was an award-winning debator plus recipient of the Harvard Book Award for Outstanding Junior Student,
Houston Rotary Club for Outstanding Senior Student, plus an Eagle Scout Awardee.
Attended Rice University, where he received a B.A., B.S., and Ph.D degrees in Chemical Engineering, concentrating
on the behavior of liquefied petroleum gases and the original development of gas chromatography systems.
Worked for two years to improve the quality of synthetic rubber latex at Goodrich-Gulf Chemical at Port Neches,
Texas, plus another two years with Humble Oil & Refining Company (now Exxon) at their Baytown, Texas Refinery to produce high-octane gasoline, followed by
chemical marketing and management assignments in Houston and New York.
Joined Houston-based Merichem Company as a chemical marketing executive, retiring as Vice President for Corporate
Development after 34 years, following his establishment of several successful international joint venture companies.
He continued as a consultant after retirement, following which he and his wife owned and operated the Holland
House Restaurant in Bellville. He later joined RE/MAX as a Realtor.
Volunteer professional activities included environmental improvement efforts to clean up the quality of water in
Houston’s Buffalo Bayou for which he received a special citation from the President of the United States; was elected President of the Environmental Division of
the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; and was presented with its Distinguished Service Award.
Married in 1984 to the former Deirdre Lane Donoho, who has brought to the marriage three daughters: Merrill Leigh
Davis (Dallas), Allison Ashley Marshall (Clear Lake, IA), Lindell Lake Kottcamp (Denver, CO) and their husbands, five grandchildren, and sister, Lannie Price
Dawkins, and husband, Bill, of Houston.
Memorial services will be next week and announced later. The memorial service for Roy Price will be Thursday, Jan 21 at St. John Lutheran Church (520 North Holland) at 1 p.m. There will be a reception afterward at the church. Posted by Joy Neely
