John W. Stokes, Jr. 91, of Waco died Dec. 13, 2010 in a Waco hospital.
Services were held Dec. 16, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church officiated by Pastor Paul
Krupicka. Interment was at 3 p.m. in the St. Johnís Lutheran Church cemetery of the Prairie Hill Community of Brenham.
John was born Sept. 15, 1919, the son of the late John W. Sr. and Emma (Reinecke) Stokes, in Kenney. He married
Elizabeth Reue March 6, 1948, in Houston.
Mr. Stokes attended elementary school in Kenney, and graduated from Bellville High School in 1939.
He graduated from Draughanís Business College, Armed Force Institute and attended University of Houston.
He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked as an accountant in
Houston retiring in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth and son John W. Stokes III, parents and brother, Lloyd and sister
He is survived by his son James M. Stokes of Waco and brother, Earl and nephew Thomas Stokes of Houston;
sister-in-law Edna Moeller, Brenham and nephews Dr. David Reue, Austin, and Judge Matthew Reue of Brenham.
Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Waco, Texas or St. John Lutheran Church, of Prairie Hill,
Brenham, Texas, or charities of your choice.
