Doris Martha Strauss, 91, of Bellville, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2010. She was born Doris Martha Hurley on March 7, 1919 to William and Martha Hurley. She was raised in Bay Point, California, where she attended Mount Diablo High School and Contra Costa Business Academy. She worked as a stenographer for Contra Costa County, CA until 1945. She later attended Blinn College School of Nursing, and graduated as an LVN. Doris worked at Sweetbriar Nursing Home in Bellville for many years, where she retired as Director of Nurses.

She married H.C. “Sunny” Strauss in January 1946, upon his return from the Pacific Theater during WWII. Doris was a long time member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, and an avid golfer and bridge player.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years H. C. “Sunny” Strauss; her parents, William and Martha Hurley, brother Bud Hurley, and sister Bonita Lindeloff. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Agnes Strauss of Cat Spring, daughter Marsha Hegar, grandson Chase Hegar, and granddaughter Melanie Beam and husband Jason of Madisonville, and numerous friends, golf and bridge partners.
