Jeanette Batla Atkisson, 91, of Bellville, Texas, died on Sunday, March 6, 2011 in Bellville, Texas. She was
born in Bellville, Texas to Ed Batla and Julia (Uhrik) Batla.
After graduation from Bellville High School and Baylor University she did graduate work at Texas University in
Before her marrige to Edward E. Atkisson, on September 5, 1948, she was employed as an analytical chemist by
Continental Oil Company in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Jeanette was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Bellville, where she served on the Altar Guild and
held offices in the Episcopal Church Women. She was a past member of the Board of Episcopal Church Women of Texas serving as Central Coordinator. She was a
member and held offices in the Bellville General Hospital Auxiliary, Bellville Women’s Golf Association where she scored a Hole-in-One, Bluebonnet Society
of Austin County, Delta Theta Tau Sorority and served as President of the Ranchland Hill Country Club in Midland, Texas.
She was also President the Society of Petroleum Engineer Wives. She served on the Board of the Dr. Roensch
Scholarship Fund and was Tresurer of the campaign, “Save the Hosptial”, in Bellville.
Jeanette is survived by her son, John, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents, sister, Inez Batla Draper and a brother, Thomas
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bellville, Texas
with Rev. David Hoster, officiating. Private Interment followed in Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville, Texas.
