Nelson Bailey Davis, 82, of Bellville died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 in Bellville.
Nelson was born in Kenney, Nov. 18, 1928 to William Lester “Jack” and Della Huff Davis.
He went to grade school in Kenney and then graduated from Bellville High School. He attended Blinn
College in Brenham and then went to work at First National Bank of Bellville on June 3, 1947.
Nelson married Earline Schubert Oct. 21, 1956 and took her son, Roy Schubert, to raise as his own.
He worked at First National for 39 years until he retired in June, 1986 but continued to be on the Board of
Directors until his death.
Nelson spent some time in the Air National Guard as a young man. He was also a 50+ year member of the Bellville
Masonic Lodge, served on the Bellville General Hospital Board of Directors as well as a member of the hospital auxiliary. Mr. Davis served on many civic boards
throughout the years in Bellville and Austin County, one of his favorite being the Beef and Forage Committee. Nelson’s main activity was tending his cattle
which he actively did every day.
Nelson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Earline Kaechele Schubert Davis of Bellville; his son, Roy and
Susie Schubert of Bellville and 4 grandchildren: Melissa and Mark Kuper of Ben Brook, Texas; Stephen Schubert of Round Rock, Mike & Lisa Boettcher
of Waller and Jamie Boettcher of College Station. He is survived by 6 great grandchildren: Jonathan, Andrew, Nicholas and Matthew Kuper and Colby and Calan
Boettcher. He is also survived by one first cousin, Kathleen and Frank Niendorff of Austin along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services at Bellville United Methodist Church Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at 10 a.m., Robert Stutes officiating.
Interment at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Bellville. Pallbearers were Roy Golan, Ricky Huff, Dixon Ashorn, Mike Boettcher, Stephen Schubert and Marvin Pless. Honorary
pallbearers were Directors at First National Bank and Austin County Beef and Forage.
In lieu of flowers memorials would be welcomed at Bellville United Methodist Church or Bellville General Hospital.
