Funeral services for Eugene “Gene” Himly, 84, of Sealy were held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at 10 a.m.
from First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lani Rousseau officiating. Interment followed in the Sealy Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Darrell Himly, Jimmy Himly, Ricki Wendt, Jr., Tristan Wendt, Kevin Lorus, and
Norman Asheraft. Honorary pallbearers were Herc Meier, Ron Kellogg, Walter Himly and Jerry Hollingshead.
Gene Himly passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 in Sealy. Born Sept. 28, 1927 in Bellville, Texas, to Edmund
O. and Josephine (Beckmann) Himly, Gene was raised in Thompson and attended school in Booth. Gene worked as home builder and was a farmer for much of his
life. He married Etta Mae Wiktorik Wendt, of Sealy, in Bellville on July 16, 1967.
Gene joined the Methodist Church with his wife Etta Mae in April 1969. Gene has held many positions in the
church such as Chairman of Council on Ministries, Staff-Parish Committee and the Trustees. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, President of the UMM and
was a Lay Leader for several years, as well as Associate Lay Leader for Houston Northwest District. Gene was a member of the Administrative Council, Finance
Committee, Building Committee, co-organizer and leader of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and was a leader for the Men’s class. He also had served as
Head Usher and was a maintenance man for the church for over 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Etta Mae Himly; stepsons, Harold Neil Wendt, Jr. and wife
Kimberli, Bruce Wendt and wife Molly, and Ricki Wendt and wife Jackie; grandchildren, Destiny and Tristan, Whitney and Callie, Brandi and Ricki, Jr.;
sister-in-law, Lydia Himly; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his father and mother Edmund and Josephine Himly; brother, Woodrow Himly; and
beloved grandson, Michael Wayne Wendt.
