Bernice Amsler Moebes, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away Nov. 20, 2011 at
the age of 93.
Bernice was born in Bellville on April 29, 1918, one of two children to Charles Conrad Amsler and Magnolia
Schroeder Amsler. The Schroeder and Amsler Families settled in the Austin County area in the 1800’s in places such as Cat Spring, Burleigh, Bellville,
Sealy, Peters Community, Industry, Millheim, and Brenham.
Bernice was raised on the family farm in the Burleigh area of Bellville. She attended the Hacienda School as a
child and later graduated from Bellville High School in 1936. She married Arthur William Moebes of Sealy on June 22, 1941. They spent the early years of their
marriage in Bellville and Sealy. They had two children, Constance (“Connie”) Moebes and Arthur (”Bill”) William Moebes Jr. Both children were
born at the old Bellville Hospital, which is now referred to as the Neely Building.
Bernice was a loving wife and mother who took great care of her family. She was a talented seamstress
and loved to make quilts and to read. Her husband was an accountant for Humble Oil & Exxon for more than 30 years. Once leaving the
Bellville/Sealy area, they settled in Katy and that is where they made their permanent home and raised their family. Her family farm in Burleigh was
maintained by her only brother, Clayton Amsler, until late in his life when he could no longer care for himself. He preceded her in death in 1997.
She has kept a large section of the farmland and has since passed it on to her children. Once retired, Arthur took Bernice all over the country to see
the sites. They enjoyed traveling with their motor home and meeting new people until his death in 2006.
She was blessed with a wonderful family and will be missed by everyone who ever met her. She is survived by
her two children, Connie Moebes DeRoch of Katy, and her son Bill Moebes and his wife Michelle of Bellville. Her grandchildren which include Scott DeRoch,
Sean DeRoch and his wife Kristyne, Shannon DeRoch Cox and her husband Tryon, Todd Moebes and his wife Sheri, Trey Moebes and his wife Shawn, Travis Moebes and
his wife Jenna, and Kesley Moebes. Great grandchildren include Presli, Kadon, Wyatt, Case, Bryson and Lane Moebes; Robbie and Paul Cox; and Tyler
Abendroth. Extended family members include Kathy Moebes and Jack DeRoch, both of Katy; her cousin Grace Mumme of Bellville; her sister-in-law Doris
Moebes of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are planned for Friday, November 25th at Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy,
Texas at 10 am with viewing starting at 8 am. Interment to follow at the Sealy Cemetery in Sealy, Texas at 2 pm.
