Lydia Hurtig Schroeder, 91 of Bleiblerville, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at Bellville General
She was born July 17, 1920 at the home of her parents Theodor and Martha (Kramer) Hurtig in the
Muellerville Community. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On Nov. 30, 1939, she married Edward Schroeder, Jr. also at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem.
Mrs. Schroeder was a homemaker. She also had been employed at Old Brazos Forge and as manager of
Burger Queen in Bellville and Brenham.
Mrs. Schroeder was a member of Welcome Lutheran Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid. She loved
gardening flowers, needlework and playing games with grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: parents; stepmother, Annie (Witliff) Hurtig; husband; daughter,
Margaret Eckermann; granddaughter, Donna Jo Zettel; great grandson, Gabriel Brokmeyer; son-in-law, Clarence Zettel; brothers, Robert Hurtig, Theodor Hurtig,
Jr.; sisters, Helen Hurtig, Martha Wiesepape.
Her loving family includes: her children and their spouses, Ruth Zettel, Corine Lakey, Larry and
Carol Schroeder; Angelie and Charles Franke; son-in-law, Wendell Eckermann; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sisters and
brother-in-law, Hildegard Brinkmeyer, Delores and Lilburn Meier; sister-in-law, Mabel Winkelmann; special friend, Marion Balke.
Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 15 from 5-7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. in Welcome Lutheran Church, Welcome with Rev. David
Klak officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Clarence Zettel, Jr., Larry Lakey, Charles Franke, Jr., Chad Eckermann, Brian
Siemsglusz, Kenneth Lakey, Dennis Lakey, Dr. Welton Hill. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, great grandsons, great great grandsons.
Memorials may be given to Welcome Lutheran Church.
