Hildegarde Amalie Schumann of Bellville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, in Bellville at the age
of 104.
Miss Schumann was born March 12, 1907, in Bellville, Austin County, Texas. The daughter of Freidrich
and Ella Witte Schumann, she grew up and attended school in Bellville.
After graduating from high school, she attended the Massey Business College. She made her home in
Houston for a time before returning to the family home in Bellville where she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
During her working years, Miss Schumann was employed as a clerk for the railroad. She enjoyed
her cattle and was a member of the Mary Circle at St. John’s.
Hildegarde is survived by her nephews Harold Graf of Wharton; Leroy Vornkahl and his wife, Pat, of
the Peters Community, Henry Lee Vornkahl and his wife, Barbara, of Houston, and Melvin Vornkahl and his wife, Edy, of Montgomery; 21 great nieces and nephews;
12 great-great nieces and nephews and many dear cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Wilma Schumann, Ella Schmidt, Hedwig
“Hattie” Graf, Edna Goebel, Anna Schumann, Alma Seyer, Elsie Lange, Emma Wehring and Minna Vornkahl; and brothers: Fritz Schumann and Carl
Schumann.
Family received friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Schmidt Funeral Home in
Bellville. Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville with Pastor Jenny Jones and Pastor David
Henske officiating. Interment followed in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
