Ernest J. Shows (husband of Shirley Shows and father of Barney Shows) was called to his Lord on June 6, 2011 Bellville, Texas.

He was born March 23, 1920 in Beeville, Texas.

Memorial service will be held on Champions Fellowship Church located at 304 E. Lubbock, Brenham, Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be donated to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803 or Meals on Wheels, 510 2nd Street Sealy, Texas 77474


Ernest Jasper Shows, 91, died June 6, 2011 in Bellville.

Mr. Shows was born on March 23, 1920 in Beeville, Texas to Martha (Gorman) and Barney Ernest Shows. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1938, and attended Corpus Christi from 1939-1940.

In June 1941, he entered in the Army Air Corps as an aircraft engine mechanic, training at Chanute Army Air Field in Illinois.

He was later stationed at Romulus Army Air Field in Michigan, where he met and married Shirley M. Hunter.

At the end of WWII, he left the service as Warrant Officer Junior Grade and returned to civilian life. He resided in Michigan until June of 1949, when they moved to Houston.

He was a brick mason by trade and worked throughout the Houston area. He retired in 1985, and moved to the Kenney area in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, building, yard work and raising miniature horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lela Shows and Lucille Range.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Shirley Shows, three children, Barney and wife Patti Shows, Holly and husband Keith Engle, Chris and wife Rachel Shows; seven grandchildren, Melinda and husband Chad Hansell, Clint and wife Stella Shows, Kathy and husband Trevor Yeager, James Engle, Thomas Shows, Brian Shows, MaKayla Shows; three great grandchildren, Abby Grant, Laney Hansell, Brett Yeager, a great-grandson due in September; and a sister, Willye Fay (Shows) Hatch.

Ernest will be missed by all but his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved and knew him.
