Edwin Edward “Sonny” Slovak, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and best of friend, went to be
with the Lord our Savior on November 10, 2011.
Sonny was born March 10, 1934 in Welcome, Texas to his parents Eddie and Mary Schiller Slovak. He was baptized
on June 6, 1934 in a church in Austin County. Sonny grew up and attended school in Wesley, Texas. He was confirmed in the Christian faith on October 1, 1950
in Wesley. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1957.
Sonny was united in marriage to Kathleen Remmert on February 28, 1958 in Sealy, Texas. They made their home in
Bellville, where they were members of the St. John Lutheran Church. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in the highway department for 30
years. Sonny’s passion was spending time with his grandchildren, especially taking them fishing. His love for this cattle, hay raising, and pasture upkeep
was immeasurable. On his drive to feed his cattle, he always stopped to visit with friends. He enjoyed talking, with a smile on his face and laughter in his
Sonny is survived by his wife, Kathleen Slovak, of Bellville; daughters, Valerie Babin and her husband David
of Bellville and Melanie Wesolick of Brenham; sons, Buddy Slovak and his wife Christine and Danny Slovak, all of Bellville; grandchildren, Regan, Logan,
Jordan, and Caitlan Slovak, Kayleigh Walcik and her husband Dusty, Stephen and Allayne Babin, Cody Wesolick, Dakota and Dawnielle Slovak. Sonny is also
survived by his sisters, Lillie Mae Shupak of Brenham, Gladys Janczak of Rosenberg, and Geraldine Braswell of Pasadena, and numerous other dear family and
friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Todd Allen Krueger.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 20 at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastors Jennie
Jones and David Henske officiating.
