Billie Jean LaRoe Turner
Billie Jean LaRoe Turner of Trinity, Texas, passed away on April 3, 2011, in Odyssey Hospice of Conroe to
conclude a long life of service to others.
Billie was born on June 7, 1928, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Faye and Alton LaRoe.
She married Robert Turner on July 4, 1947. Together they were in the school business, Robert, a teacher,
and Billie, his ever-faithful supporter. They lived and served in the Texas communities of Huntsville, Freer, Navasota, Bellville, Pearland, and
Robert served as Superintendent of Bellville Schools from 1960 to 1968.
Billie faithfully and lovingly nursed Robert for almost thirty years after a car accident rendered him a
quadriplegic. Her amazing service to him was a shining example of dedication to all who knew her. Billie was just as dedicated in her service to
her church, especially her church choir where she was the lone female tenor. She was active in many community activities which included serving as president
of the Martin Senior Center and helping to coordinate their Meals on Wheels program.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband Robert Turner, her parents Faye and Alton LaRoe, and her sister
Billie is survived by her sister Marlene Underwood, three children Mike and Carol Turner of Bellville, Susan
Enloe of Humble, Dannie and Paul Machemehl of Bellville, her grandchildren Jennifer Turner, Mason Turner, Tracy and Rocky Byers, Katie and Matthew
Jones, JP Machemehl, and Amy Machemehl, and one great-grandchild Daxton Jones. Billie is also survived by many loving friends; significant among them is
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, at First United Methodist Church of Trinity.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Billie’s memory to First United Methodist Church of Trinity, Martin Senior Center, First
Presbyterian Church of Trinity, or the Robert and Billie LaRoe Turner Endowed Scholarship at Sam Houston State University.
