Memorial Services for Grover L. James, age 64, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at his residence, 1315 Miller Road, Sealy, Texas 77474 with Chaplain Daniel Schramm officiating.
Grover L. James died on March 11, 2014 at his home in Sealy with his family at his side. Grover fought a long hard battle with prostate cancer for the last several years of his life.
He was born on July 15, 1949 in Beeville.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lt. Colonel Kenneth Leon James and Hazel Joyce James.
Grover lived in many places in the United States and across the world. His family settled in San Antonio where he graduated from Robert G. Cole High School on Fort Sam Houston. He attended both Texas A&M University where he was in the Corp of Cadets and Blinn Jr. College .
In 1977 he met and later married Nancy Koeppen on Dec. 3, 1977. They had 3 children; April, Kristina and Jacob. After trying his skills at several diverse trades he settled on law enforcement in 1991 where he graduated from the University Of Houston Police Academy. He served as an Austin County Deputy Sheriff, Wallis police officer and lastly a Harris County Deputy Sheriff. He was a certified motor patrol escort and certified Mounted Patrol Officer.
Grover is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy Koeppen James, daughters, April James, Kristina Birchfield, son, Jacob James and wife Charity, 6 grandchildren, James Gauss, Sabrina and Tyler Paben, Chance Hilburn, Addison and Wyatt James all of Sealy, his brother, Gary and wife Betty of Greensboro, Ga., numerous nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
