Application for membership (revised 6/22/2009)
The main purpose of the Bay Area Genealogical Society is education. It is our desire to create, foster and maintain interest in genealogical research through the education of people of all ages.

We intend to --

    - hold classes so people of all ages can learn how to research;
    - offer a support system for beginners to help them along the way;
    - have our members participate by sharing their knowledge;
    - promote speakers that can teach us new methods and ideas.
We plan to share this information with others through our monthly Newsletter, with open seminars, and through our Quarterly.

Announcing
Annual Research Award
sponsored by BAGS

The Bay Area Genealogical Society (BAGS) will sponsor an annual cash award of $250 to encourage new research in Texas history and family history. Entrants must be Texas residents.  Papers submitted must be new, previously unpublished research or family history, completed no more than two years prior to deadline.  The length of the paper may vary from 10 to 25 pages of text, single spaced.  Attached pedigree charts, family group sheets, photograph pages, the index, bibliography and any other addenda do not count as text pages. All sources used in the paper must be completely documented according to accepted research standards, and the paper must contain a surname index and a bibliography or list of sources. BAGS reserves the option to publish the paper in its Quarterly and/or its Newsletter, either online or in print, one time.  BAG’s option to publish will not infringe upon the author’s right to full publication later. As per copyright law, all photographs, artwork, charts or design elements created by another person must include the original author or artist’s information and permission to use.

Submissions will be accepted from September 1st to December 1st of each calendar year. All entries for this year must be postmarked on or before December 1, 2009. Late entries will not be accepted. Three typed, single spaced copies must be mailed to the BAGS Secretary during that time frame at: Bay Area Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 891447, Houston, TX 77289-1447.

 No entries may be handed to any member or officer of the organization for submittal. Each entry will be blind reviewed by the Award Selection Committee, which will be made up of members of the Bay Area Genealogical Society Board of Directors and Committees.  A copy of the entry form with the author’s name, address and contact information must accompany all submitted work.  No name, address or contact information should appear on any page of the three submittal copies.  The BAGS Secretary will remove the names as the entries are submitted and assign a number to each entry for the Award Selection Committee’s review.  The award will be presented at a ceremony at the March BAGS meeting, and the winner must attend this meeting to receive his or her award. The winner will also be required to present the paper at a scheduled BAGS meeting.

 Members of the BAGS Board of Directors or Award Selection Committee, their spouses and children may not apply for the award while they are seated officers or committee members. A complete list of the guidelines and an entry form may be found by clicking on the link below.
