Word was received at Marfa that on the 23rd of January 1911, Richard C. Daly of Presidio, a veteran of two wars, had peacefully passed away, having reached on life's ladder the 79th step. At the time of his death he was drawing a pension as a Mexican War Veteran. Some fifty years ago he was stationed at Fort Davis and was a sergeant in the first U. S. Infantry, which was afaterwards commanded by Gen. Wm. Shafter. He joined the Confederate army, although of northern birth, and made according to reports, a gallant soldier of the "lost cause". After the war he settled in Presidio on the Rio Grande where he was associated in business for a number of years with Milton Favor.
The last of the pioneers of Presidio County has entered into his eternal rest.

The death of Mr. Charles Ceburn Dugat on last Friday morning came as a surprise to many of our citizens. We believe it was not generally known that he had been ill. His death followed within a week after an attack of acute indigestion.
Mr. Dugat was born near Refugio, Bee County, Texas, December 29, 1849; died September 7, 1923. He lived in this vicinity of his nativity until 1882 when he moved to Edwards County. Mr. Dugat was married fifty-five years ago to Miss Cleo Root near Beeville, to which union eight children were born four of whom with their mother survive him.
In his youth Mr. Dugat professed religion and joined the Baptist Church. The funeral was conducted at the grave by his warm personal friends, Rev. H. M. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
